Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Surgeon

Monica Thoms, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1978, she received training at the University of Illinois Medical School. She completed her residency at Michael Reese Hospital/University of Chicago.

Dr. Thoms is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a medical staff member at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She has received the highest patient satisfaction rating on an independent survey comparing ophthalmologists in the Chicago area. According to Castle Connilly Guide, her peers recognize her as "one of the best doctors in the Chicago Metropolitan area."

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Surgeon

Dr. Rasha Ali obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in English summa cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and also obtained her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and went on to complete a cornea fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Ali treats ophthalmic conditions including, but not limited to, diabetic eye disease, ocular surface disease/dry eye, glaucoma, and uveitis. She performs traditional and refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and others. She also has a special interest in peri-ocular aesthetic management i.e. cosmetic Botox, Restylane, etc. Dr. Ali believes in a compassionate approach to patient care, and enjoys the rapport she cultivates with each of her patients.

In her spare time she enjoys spending quality time with her family, calligraphy, painting, volunteering, and traveling.

LISA YOUNG, O.D.

LISA YOUNG, O.D.

Optometrist

Dr. Lisa Young has been practicing for over 15 years in the Chicago suburbs. Her specialized optometric training and clinical experience gives her a unique perspective in the treatment and management of the eyes and the visual system.

She received a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated cum laude from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Subsequently, Dr. Young went on for post-doctoral training in the treatment and management of primary eye care and ocular disease at the Illinois Institute in Chicago.

Dr. Young is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and served as the inaugural chair of the Academy's Glaucoma Section. She has served on the executive council of the Glaucoma Section and the Illinois State Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry for the past decade. She is also a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and the Optometric Glaucoma Society. She continues to remain active within the optometric community, holding adjunct faculty positions at the Illinois College of Optometry and the Chicago College of Optometry at Midwestern University, Lecturing locally and nationally, along with continued interest in research and patient care.

Residing in Arlington Heights, Dr. Young is excited to serve the eye care needs of her community. In her free time she enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Medical Retinologist

Dr. Oussama Boundaoui is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained medical retina specialist. His surgical interests include laser-assisted premium cataract surgery, cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants, minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery, and eyelid surgery including blepharoplasty. He earned his medical degree from Rush University Medical Center in 2010. After completing a medical internship at Christ Hospital in Oaklawn, he completed his ophthalmology residency training at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Akron, Ohio where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed subspecialty fellowship training at the Retina Institute of California, in which he focused on the evaluation and treatment of retinal disorders. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Academy of Ophthalmology and a medical staff member at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Julie Carlson is an Optometrist who practices comprehensive Optometry including the treatment and management of ocular disease. She has a great deal of experience in specialty contact lens fitting and enjoys the challenge. She joined the practice in 1995 and takes pride in the lasting relationships she has formed with her patients over the many years. Dr. Carlson is a graduate of the University of Michigan, majoring in Biology. She graduated Salutatorian of her class from the New England College of Optometry in 1993 and then went on to complete post doctoral training in the treatment and management of ocular disease. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. Julie enjoys playing tennis and traveling with her family.

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Surgeon

Dr. Larry Auerbach has been a practicing ophthalmologist since 1984. He is a licensed physician and surgeon with the State if Illinois and certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Auerbach graduated from the University of Indiana with a bachelors degree and then went on to earn his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He completed his medical internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. He is currently on staff with Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Kosciuk Brauer is a residency-trained Optometrist who practices full-scope Optometry. She takes pride in providing thorough and thoughtful care to all of her patients. She particularly enjoys ocular disease treatment and management.

An Arlington Heights native, she attended St. James School and Prospect High School. She later attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study Molecular and Cellular Biology and Spanish. Following college, she went to Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating as co-valedictorian with a Doctorate of Optometry in 2011.

She completed an additional year of residency training at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Chicago from 2011-2012. This training focused on ocular disease treatment and management, low vision for patients with visual impairment, and specialty contact lens fitting. She has worked in various settings and is currently a clinical instructor who oversees optometry students at the Illinois Eye Institute within the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. as well as a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, Andrew, and their dog, Thunder. She also enjoys yoga, rooting for the Cubs, and trying out new recipes.
